Hello everyone, My name is Sarmite, I am a 74 year old woman, mother of 4 grandmother of 4. I am type 2 diabetic,no medication. Had a hypo in a shopping centre without much warning, panic attack, treated it with glucose, had another one some time later, same scenario which has now resulted in ongoing anxiety. Also I have anxiety and churning stomach upon waking up. Would love to know if anyone else experiences these sort of anxiety episodes. Regards Sarmite

Hello Sarmite

Welcome to Beyond Blue (BB) forums. The people who post are supportive and caring.

I have had panic attacks in shopping centres, the anxiety generally escalates even more because of where I am. My response is to leave as quickly as possible and get to my car where I begin to do my breathing and mindfulness. I find it frightening, however, it does not stop me from going out. Have a little stubbornness in me.

Have you spoken to your doctor about your hypo episodes that induced anxiety / panic attacks? That might be a good place to start. There maybe some underlying issues related to your diabetes. Might be good to have it checked out if you haven't already done so.

Also, there is a lot of information available on the BB home page under the Facts tab relating to anxiety - have a look there if you like

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/home

Would like to hear how you get along or if you want to follow any of the threads under the anxiety forum.

Kind regards

Hi Sarmite,

I've been experiencing the stomach churning ss regularly this year. I made some major positive life decisions last year and am trying to adjust to those changes. When I feel this way, I try to acknowledge the feelings and breathe calmly and deeply. I sit with these feelings and keep breathing until I get some relief.
