Hi all, have joined the site. Like everyone here I have my own personal demons that I contend with every day. It has been good to read other members accounts of what they go through. Being a single guy in a country town it can be hard to get out and meet new people when you would much rather be safe at home with the curtains drawn.

To everyone out there, I hope you get through today and find atleast 1 thing to smile at every day.

Hi Sivle and Pepper, yep I am on regular medication. It helps most of the time, but like most of us I have good and bad days. my work involves regular contact with clients either on the phone or in presentations, so when I finish for the day or on weekends when I don't have my son, it's "YAY I'm home alone, now close these curtains, put the tv on and tune out the rest of the world time"

Hi Dwyer,

It sounds like home is your safe place. Tucked away from the stress and pressures of the "outside" work.

I hear you...those safe places and moments of respite are important. I personally struggle to get out of bed (takes me roughly 3 hours to get out of bed each morning...no joke there) so I can empathise with you in my own way.

Hi Dory,

I do actually quite enjoy my work, and last year I pretty much had a full on mental collapse. My employers have been absolutely awesome about my mental health. I work as an insurance broker based in Emerald. (If your not a local, get a map of QLD, put your finger smack bang in the centre and your pretty close!!)

When I have the motivation, I love a bit of off road 4wd fun, nothing too serious as I am usually on my own, and have to be able to get to work on the Monday...... I do a bit of dirt bike riding occasionally as well. I can happily waste a lot of time just staring up at the stars on a nice clear night pondering where I came from (we are all essentially made up from star dust!!) other than that, the laziness usually kicks in after doing the washing so I generally spend the weekend watching movies.

Other than doing laps in a fish bowl getting excited every time you see a loaf of bread for the first time, what are your hobbies?

Yep, home is definitely my safe place from the world. I fully get the whole trying to get out of bed debacle. It takes me a bit over an hour to get up, have a couple of coffees, and try to get the brain kickstarted and functioning so I can get ready to face the day.....

Some days it all goes well..... Other days, I get as far as coffee, checking clothes are ironed, showering... and back to bed. I am very fortunate to have extremely understanding employers, that have basically taken the attitude of "whatever it takes to get you through till tomorrow is fine with us"

Sometimes the body clock gets out of sync for a week or so, so it can be nothing for me to hide away all day, and then go to work at night instead... Thankfully not many clients call in the middle of the night so I actually get an amazing amount of work done then.

I have a Pajero, I am man, love fishing on a boat or a sandbar, everyone else loves when I try rock or river fishing, it cracks everyone up. (if there is 1 submerged log in a river I will get it everytime) I am bit of a sucker for most animals as well, would love to have a pet, but its a bit hard as I do a fair bit of travelling with work. That and I felt pretty sad when my pet scorpion died from heat stress (forgot to leave the bedroom window open when I was going away,) Haven't been shooting in years but loved the old Spaz 12, and SLR back in the day. I'd ask what its like being married to the marfia but I don't really feel like going for a swim with the fishies while wearing concrete shoes 🙂

If a fish couldn't drink me under the table, I would be worried. Days gone by I would definitely have taken it as a challenge though, and been pleasantly shocked if you could beat me..... these days I don't drink a lot often, but still give it a good nudge if the feeling bites. Was a big rum/scotch/Bourbon drinker in the younger days, but tend to mellow with a bottle of nice wine now.

Part of the problem I have these days (if it could be called that) is that I am not a big fan of crowds. So it makes it a bit hard to get to know people in a social aspect. Especially if I have spent the whole week talking to clients on the phone, doing reviews, additions and whatever. At that point I just want to hide away in the fortress of solitude.

HAHA, Pajero is for the Players and haters are going to Hate......

It is my own vehicle not work supplied. Its a 2001 top of the range that I picked up really cheap from someone desperate to sell. So don't care if it gets scratched or whatever while going bush 🙂 It has gone everywhere I wanted to and as I am normally on my own, and I am not an "experienced" off roader, it gets me through anything I am game to have a crack at.....

the drive isn't for work, that's just what I do to see my son. Usually I try to arrange to see clients along the way, but I'm taking this Friday off so is just a cruisy drive down.
